Katie & Jamie got married at the Farm in June 2023. They had heard a lot about us online and when they visited for the first time – they both just fell in love with South Farm and all of its’ natural beauty and our stunning backdrops. Despite a little rain on the day, this certainly didn’t dampen their spirits! Read all about the story of their stunning wedding day in our latest blog…

Date of your wedding: 22/06/2023

Time of your ceremony: 3pm

Location of your ceremony: Summer House

Tell us how and when you first met?
My uncle had persuaded me to take a job at his school during my gap year. It was both mine and Jamie’s first day, and he was the first person I saw in the staff room! I was really nervous and he seemed like a nice guy so I spent the day with him, and the rest is history!

Which parts of the venue you used for your big day?
Our ceremony was in the Summer House, we managed to have a bit of our drinks reception outside before the rain started, but the South Farm team where so amazing at getting everyone inside to continue the reception. Whilst the rain was annoying, it didn’t affect any aspects of our day. We then had our disco in the Horse Barn which was amazing! We had everyone up and dancing.

Which was your favourite spot for wedding photos?
There are too many to pick just one! The portrait photos on the bridge by the pond, and the front of the house are my favourite. The colour’s are so beautiful, especially the red roses. We loved having our group photos in front of the steam engine, so unique!

Tell us about your special colour theme and how you styled your big day?
We kept our décor very natural. I’m really pleased we went for dried flowers. We made our table decorations ourselves so it really took the stress out of it because we could make them well in advance, and our gests had something to keep after the wedding. I also had all my bouquets made from dried flowers, which meant I could keep mine after the wedding.

How did you first hear about South Farm and what made you choose our venue for your wedding day?
I found South Farm whilst looking online at different wedding venues. As soon as we saw it we fell in love with its natural beauty. It’s the sort of venue you can dress up, or leave it as it is. We put minimal decorations out for our ceremony, as the setting was just so beautiful as it is!

Tell us some detail about your special day?
We certainly broke the drought! I was a bit worried about the forecast having had a little rain a few days before, but the forecast was clear for the day so I was really pleased we could go ahead with the outdoor ceremony. The rain held off, until I started to walk down the aisle! We managed to get through the ceremony without it getting too heavy, but I know the amazing SF team were on standby with umbrellas. The day ran really smoothly, despite having to make a few changes due to the rain.

How did you feel on the day?
I was pretty calm as we were getting everything ready. It was a mix of nerves and excitement, especially as I was putting my dress on. As soon as everyone was ready, and I had seen my dad for the first time, the rest of the day was such a magical blur!

What was your most memorable moment from your wedding?
There were a few. One of them being all of my close friends and family huddled in the farmhouse, having a lovely time chatting and laughing as it has started raining as we were talking photos! Not really what you want on the wedding day, but it was actually a really special moment for us. My other favorite bit was the surprise singers we had booked for our reception. I was so excited for their set and they couldn’t have been better!

How did you choose your ceremony and first dance music?
For most of our music, and our ceremony songs, Jamie and I sat down with some wine and did a deep dive on Spotify. For our first dance, we had always loved the song La Vie En Rose, and had recently discovered the version done by celeste, so we knew that was the one early on. It’s also a very short song, so made our dance lessons choreographing the dance much easier!

How many bridesmaids did you have and how did you ask them to be your bridesmaids?
I had 6! I took my friends out to dinner to ask, and I gave my two cousins gifts asking them to be my bridesmaids.

How did you pick your best men and ushers?
Jamie has 2 best friends so it was lonely right that he had 2 best men. It worked really well as it meant they could share roles throughout the day. His ushers comprised of another close friend, mine and Jamie’s brothers, and his cousin.

How many speeches did you have and do you have any advice for anyone giving a speech?
We had three speeches, Father of the Bride, Groom and Best Man. Definitely do your speeches before the meal, then you can enjoy your food!

What did you wear?
My main dress was by Stella York, it wasn’t what I was going for initially. I had envisioned a floaty, A-line, boho dress, but actually found out I looked amazing in something a bit more fitted! I was also against trying on something strapless. I tried this dress on to look at the shape and ended up falling in love with it! I wanted something a bit different so ended up going for two looks. For the ceremony I had an elegant overskirt on, which came off later in the day revealing my other dress, which I added a sparkly belt and tiara to, ready to party!

Is there anything you would have done differently?
No, everything was perfect!

What are your top tips for other couples?
Stop and look around, take in everything as it all goes so fast! We did this, multiple times throughout the day, and we still wished we did it more. Also, make sure your groomsmen try all of their suit’s on before the wedding… It stops the stress of finding out your best mans trousers are two sizes too small on the day!!

Where did you go on honeymoon?
We honeymooned in Mauritius. It has been the most magical few weeks, getting to spend quality time together with my husband. Its definitely worth spending the money to make it as special as possible as you only do it once!
