Carla & Ross’s Gorgeous Autumn Wedding

June 04, 2025

Carla and Ross fell in love with South Farm the moment they arrived and knew instantly it was perfect for their countryside wedding in Hertfordshire — in fact, it was the only one they visited. The homely atmosphere, attentive staff, and locally-sourced food sealed the deal. Their wedding day was flawlessly managed, with special thanks to Michelle, who helped them feel completely at ease. From the delicious food to the stunning setting, everything was beautifully executed. Their nerves melted away on arrival, and they were able to fully enjoy a day they described as perfect in every way. Read all about their beautiful Autumnal wedding day in our latest blog…

Date of your wedding: 13 October 2024

Time of your Ceremony: 2:00pm

Location of your Ceremony: The Old Dairy

We’d love to hear your first date stories or tell us how and when you first met?
We met through Match.com and chatted for a couple of weeks before we finally met in person at Cambridge Station for a meal and a film and we haven’t been apart since.

Which parts of the venue did you use for your big day?
We had our ceremony in The Old Dairy and our evening dancing in the beautiful Tudor Barn along with our wedding breakfast. Drinks were enjoyed out in the stunning grounds and inside The Old Dairy.

Which was your favourite spot for wedding photos?
Out the front of the Farmhouse, and on the grass at the front under the arch – both made for some absolutely stunning photos

Tell us about any special colour themes you had for your wedding day or how you styled your big day?
We chose a rustic style with eucalyptus and babies-breath, and we had green as our wedding colour for Bride and Bridesmaids, Groom and Groomsmen.

How did you first hear about South Farm and what made you choose our venue for your wedding day?
We came across South Farm when looking for venues and we fell in love with the place the minute we arrived. The staff were amazing and the way it felt like home along with the locally-sourced food made us decide not to look anywhere else; it was the first and only venue we looked at.

Tell us some details about your special day?
The whole day was so well-managed and Michelle was amazing. She made us both feel so at ease. The food was delicious and all our guests kept saying what a beautiful and well-run venue it was.

How did you feel on the day?
We both felt excited for the day and enjoyed it so much, we were both so happy with how everything looked and how well executed it all was. All the nerves disappeared once we arrived as again Michelle was awesome!

What was your most memorable moment from your wedding?
Seeing each other for the first time on the day and when I walked down the aisle with my Dad.

How did you choose your ceremony and first dance music?
We didn’t take long to choose the ceremony music as it was music we both really liked – classical music covers of some of our favourite songs. It took us a bit longer to decide on the song for our first dance, as we wanted something a bit upbeat but once we heard the song we both knew it was the right one.

How many Bridesmaids did you have and how did you ask them to be your Bridesmaids?
I had six Bridesmaids. I had my sister-in-law as Maid of Honour, then my daughter, step-daughter and two of my closest friends. My youngest Bridesmaid was the daughter of one of my Bridesmaids who had always wanted to be a Bridesmaid and I wanted to give her that chance. I asked them all individually if they would do me the honour of being in my wedding party.

How did you pick your Best Men and Ushers?
The Best Man was one of my husbands oldest friends, and my husband had been his best-man previously. My step-son was Ring-Bearer / Page-Boy. My husband also asked my brother and his son to join as Groomsman and Page-Boy respectively.

How many speeches did you have and do you have any advice for anyone giving a speech?
We had three speeches, one by my husband, one by my Dad and one by the Best Man. They all did really well. I would say the best advice is don’t drink too much beforehand, relax, and don’t overthink it!

What did you wear?
I wore a white gown with a long train with buttons down the back – it was off the shoulder and had pockets with a split up the front. The boys wore navy blue three-piece suits with green ties / pocket-squares and brown dress-shoes.

Is there anything you would have done differently?
Absolutely nothing, the day and the venue were both perfect.

What are your top tips for other couples?
Really think about what you both as a couple want from your day and stick to your budget.

Where did you go on Honeymoon?
We went to Scotland for our Honeymoon – we started in Edinburgh, moved up to Fort William for a couple of days, then finished in Falkland.
