Jess & Thad had beautiful Autumn wedding day. They married in a local church and returned to South Farm for their wedding reception. They used so many parts of the venue, farm and gardens for their stunning wedding photos. We caught up with them to hear how they planned their special day.

Date of wedding: 21/10/22

Time & location of ceremony: 2pm – The Parish church of St Peter and St Paul Bassingbourn

How and when did you first met?
We first met at university 6 years ago, we were living in halls in the rooms next door to each other. Everyone said not to date within halls so we dated in secret in the beginning.

Which parts of the venue you used for your big day?
The Bridal Party got ready in The Coach House Suite, we had a church ceremony in the local church at Bassingbourn and returned to South Farm for a drinks reception in The Old Dairy. Our Wedding breakfast was held in the Tudor Barn and we had our evening party in The Tudor Barn with dancing in Horse Barn

Which was your favourite spot for wedding photos?
We loved having photos with the pigs and got some great Groomsmen photos by the Steam Engine and in the Drawing Room

Tell us about any special colour schemes & themes you had for your wedding day
We had a rustic autumnal theme, we loved that the venue needed little to no decoration

How did you first hear about South Farm and what made you choose our venue for your wedding day?
We can’t remember but think we found South Farm on Google. Me and my husband love the outdoors and the venue is so us, its beautiful.

Tell us some detail about your special day?
My dad was in hospital the week before the Wedding, only being discharged at 4pm the day before. So it made it even more perfect that he could be there to walk me down the aisle at the church. There was a lot of stress leading up to the day, due to my dad being unwell, but the getting ready and the whole day went so smoothly (including slight last minute chances to my dad’s food so he could eat a soft diet)

How did you feel on the day?
It was perfect

What was your most memorable moment from your wedding?
Getting ready in the Bridal Suite

How did you choose your ceremony / first dance music?
Me and my mum chose ‘I Get to Love You’  for me to walk down the aisle at the church
My husband chose ‘Why Don’t We Just Dance’ as our first dance

How did you pick your best men and ushers?
They have been close since leaving high school/sixth-form

How many speeches did you have and do you have any advice for anyone giving a speech?
We had three speeches by the Father of the Bride, Groom and Best Man. Our Best Man has bad anxiety but he did amazingly and I think he’d say, practice and support from his significant other

What did you wear?
I wore a blush/white A-line dress with converse and my husband wore a tweed dark green suit

Is there anything you would have done differently?
No!

What are your top tips for other couples?
Be organised, don’t leave anything to the week before, because either, things will go wrong or you can relax.
My dad was in hospital the week before so we did no wedding stuff, but it was all mostly sorted already

Where did you go/where do you plan to go on honeymoon?
We had only recently got back three weeks previously from six months of travelling and working in Australia so we decided to do a city break to York
